I am so freaking excited about these little bites of bliss! They are seriously my dream healthy treat brought to fruition. Sugar free, dairy free, gluten free and full of healthy fats , fibre + organic cacao . Best of all.. it tastes like its made with Nutella, or a bit like a Bueno chocolate bar (my favourite growing up).

These bliss balls may taste like a chocolate bar, but they are nothing like it. They are so much better!  Rather than giving you a crazy spike and crash in your blood sugar like you would with a typical chocolate bar, you get a slow and steady influx of energy, with no crash. This is thanks to the quality fats and high fibre content that slows the flood of sugars (carbohydrates) into your blood stream. What you end up with is balanced blood sugar and zero crash.

Something you may be surprised to hear about is that this is absolutely key to happy hormones- especially our sex hormones, which have a huge impact on the health of our skin. Perioral Dermatitis, our hormones and blood sugar imbalances are closely linked, friends! So moral of the story.. always have these bliss balls sitting in your fridge for when you need an energy boost or chocolate fix. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Nourishing “Nutella” Bliss Balls (GF, DF, VG, SF)

  • 1/4 cup coconut flour (other flours would work fine, but you may need a little more)

  • 1/2 cup sunflower seed butter – more liquidy will work better (if it was in the fridge let it come to room temp)

  • 1 cup pitted dates – soaked for 10 min in hot water

  • 3 tbsp organic cacao powder

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract  (optional)

  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil – if mixture ends up being a little dry (depends on the nut butter + flour you use) you can add extra

  • 1/2 cup hazelnuts

  • 1 1/2 tbsp flax seeds

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (yup, we can eat cinnamon with PD!)

I also opened up and added a few capsules of Chaga powder for immune support, but this is not necessary flavour wise. Other kinds of medicinal mushroom powders would work well too!

Directions

1. Add all ingredients into a food processor, except the melted coconut oil

2. Once turned on, start pouring melted coconut oil in slowly

3. Blend until mixture looks like it can be rolled into balls. There will still be lots of pieces of hazelnuts and flaxseeds. This adds a really nice crunch

4. Roll into bite size balls and place in fridge

5. Wait around 30 min and enjoy! Keep in fridge

With Love,

Zoe, RHN
